Why does TPF take place in July?

We coordinate with other Pride festivals around the South Sound, so people have many options throughout the Pride Season. There are festivals and marches from mid-May to late August. (You can check out the calendar of Pride events in the South Sound by visiting our partners at the GSBA). Historically, our predecessors, Out In The Park, picked July because there would be less chances of rain, and the festival was held at a park. No need to get our heels all muddy!

Finally, although June is recognized as “Pride Month” due to the events that happened at Stonewall Inn in New York City, LGBTQ communities around the world celebrate Pride at different times of the year. For instance, it would be hard to have a good Pride festival in the southern hemisphere in July when it’s the middle of winter for them!
